Pressure point is a location on the body where a nerve ends or crosses/intersects with another. Pressure points can be defined as areas of the human body that, when manipulated in a certain way, produce significant pain or other effects. Pressure points are something that cannot be coarsened like the abdomen is coarsened by exercise. Pressure points can be used to harm as well as heal. You can harm a person by hitting or pressing on the pressure points. Pressure points can also be used to heal by doing massage, acupressure or acupuncture. Kyusho Jitsu is a type of martial art based on pressure points. There are 350+ pressure points on the body according to Kyusho Jitsu. But only a percentage of them can be used for self-defence purposes.
The application of pressure point knowledge in combat is known as Varma Adimurai pressure point striking. This can be done either with the empty hand or with a blunt weapon such as a stick or a staff. Pressure points in martial arts are mainly used in Aikido, Krav Maga, Karate, KungFu. Pressure points in martial arts are often used for self-defence because they require less effort. Suppose an attacker grabs your neck, you can easily apply pressure on pressure points like elbow pit, traps, etc. Apart from the pressure points in martial arts here are the types of pressure points.

Types of Pressure Points

There are 3 types of pressure points according to the Kyusho Jitsu

  • Touch points – These are activated with a simple press. They are used in self-defence with minimal effort.
  • Rub Points – This is a similar idea but with a different type of action.
  • Strike Points – Strike points are usually the most focused pressure points in a fight and in self defence.
